| Corporate Information:
Assist-2-Sell was started in Reno, Nevada in 1987 by Mary LaMeres-Pomin and Lyle Martin. Both have been REALTORS since 1977. In addition to their roles as Co-CEO’s of the franchise operations, they also own and operate, with their manager, an Assist-2-Sell franchise office in Reno. Local Information: Assist-2-Sell Discount Realty is a franchise that has been open since November 2005. It is locally owned by Michele Webb who has been a licensed agent since 1997. We specialize is selling residential properties in the Knox, Loudon, Anderson, and Blount County areas. We are located in Fountain City. Assist-2-Sell Concept: Provide sellers with the full services of a professional REALTOR at a very competitive commission structure. Slogan: “Full Service with $avings!”® Because we charge lower fees, we are labeled as “discount” brokers. That’s okay. Discount is no longer a dirty word. What is frustrating is that traditional agents will misrepresent what we do. They tell sellers that since we charge less, we do less, when in fact we do more. We find it interesting that traditional brokers, in response to consumer demand for lower fees, are now offering “unbundled services” or “al carte services” at a discounted commission. They just don’t get it. It’s fun to read about this so-called “new” idea. When they try and un-bundle, they are forced to really evaluate what they provide for the fees they charge. They are having trouble assigning a value to each function. It really gets difficult when they are comparing marketing of homes where there may be a significant price difference. How are they going to justify charging so much more for selling a $300,000 home compared to a $150,000 home? Unbundling services seems to be synonymous with “taking away” services. They seem to be saying, “I’ll charge you less if I do less.” Since customer service is already perceived as low in this industry, what is “the less” that they are going to do? We have found that if you do less, you get less results. Without results, you are out of business. We approach it from the standpoint of doing more and charging less. Our corporate office started franchising in 1994. We have just over 500 offices in 45 states and Canada. In 2003 we added 103 new franchise offices. In 2004 we added 145. We exceeded our goal of 500 offices by the end of 2006. Many of our franchisees were previously top producing agents who successfully operated under a team concept within someone else’s office. They are attracted to our concept because we offer them with an opportunity to build their own business with their own identity. It is tough competing with the “mega-offices” out there. Our concepts of charging lower fees helps level the playing field. |
